An etiquette question for mums...
Hi, in Australia, is it OK to do the school run in your gym clothes? Just checking before I do the school run next Tuesday :p.

Of course it's ok! Probably about the only thing you can't wear is nothing

But is it the done thing? This is a prep school in the Northern Suburbs. Not sure if that makes any difference. Don't want to show the kids up on their first day .

Re: An etiquette question for mums...
Yup. same up here on the Central Coast, people drop kids off at school in their pyjamas with or without a bath robe, bare feet and hair in knots. Disgraceful, but see it every day.

Re: An etiquette question for mums...
People can wear whatever they like, no idea what anyone else would even care.

Re: An etiquette question for mums...
It seems like every person under the age of about 50 wears gym clothes all the time at the weekend. It's like a uniform - shoppers, walkers, coffee drinkers et al - all out and about in their tight pants doing their weekend stuff. Doubt half of them have ever been near a gym or done a yoga class.
Dropping the kids off at a private school in your gym clothes? You'd fit in very nicely. |

Where I live, eastern subs of Sydney, the yummy mummies are always wandering around in hot pants. Not sure if they are off to the gym after school drop off, or doing coffee with the ladies, but its the done thing around here.

Re: An etiquette question for mums...
Thanks for all the replies. Gym kit it is then!

Re: An etiquette question for mums...
Hot pants would be better :)

I'm just an old fashioned fogey with morals set back in dark ages. Don't mind me, I am just a grumpy old man and proud of it.

Just the same as me going shopping down at the market in my Y fronts and a string vest plus a pair of old dog eared slippers on my feet I suppose.

I'm pretty fortunate there. My partner got up this morning and emptied the dishwasher and restacked it while I got dressed for work then made me a takeaway coffee. Then went out of his way to drop me at the station so I didn't have to walk in the dark. ❤

I'm a mental health professional and when people are depressed we encourage them to get up at the same time every morning, shower and put on clean clothes. It's better for their mental health than staying in Pyjamas all day. Pyjamas are for relaxing at home, not for dropping your kids off at school. |

But what if you've got three showering for school, lunch boxes to fill, ballet bags, instruments and sports bags to pack? Best to stay in your warm pj's and have a HOT shower when the hot water system has had time to reheat in my opinion. :p

Agreed. Why would the assumption be that the pj wearing parents are going to stay that way all day?

A daughter works at Woolies and they do dress up days raising money for a children's hopsital. She refuses to go in anything but work clothes. Her manager gave her grief the other week and ordered her to wear pjs. She doesn't own any so we had to raid the loft for her old Cheer trakkies. She hated every minute of her shift. |

Re: An etiquette question for mums...
Righto ladies, you've inspired me. I'm declaring it pyjama day at my work today. Another cuppa for me and I'm off, bugger the shower and sensible shoes today!
