OH has just been told that 5 teeth need crowns -at $2k per tooth!! The dentist said if he has them all done at once, he will have a 10% discount. Still means $9000 to find.

Not happening any time soon.

$2k per tooth that's daylight robbery!

When I had my root canal done the crown was $1200 but that was also under one of those dental plan things.

Go on hols to Singapore and go and see my man 1/4 of the price. Apparently the Philippines is the place to go as well these days. The Bangkok Dental Hospital will also arrange a dental holiday for you with accommodation and day trips! You can tell I did some research on this

I wanted to pay for the dentures now as I have gone through the process of having them made and so I can claim what I can from my private health insurance in this financial year but they have said I can't and have to pay for the dentures after the extractions and they won't issue the ''code'' for the dentures which allows me to claim this year (although have had to pay 50% deposit up front). So will lose benefits for this completeley for this year which would have been up to $1000. Whether it's a case of bad timing or beauracrasy or both, it's very annoying. Dentures have been made for me, no use to anyone else.
Heh Kitty, not saying you're wrong but I have never heard of a private insurance company here that uses the financial year. They usually use the calendar year. Many people have big things started in Dec and finished in Jan to claim on two years. Just thought I'd mention it if you hadn't checked this already.

It seems dentists in city centres or in buildings with a sea-view can be twice as expensive as ones in small towns or suburban shopping centres.

It's worth shopping around.

I agree. Some of the costs on here seem very high in comparison to the prices I am charged.

I imagine a trendy inner Sydney suburb would be a lot higher than a more modest place. Definitely worth a ring around.

Further to my post above re dental costs I have found a similarly priced plan that pays out 85% of major dental as well....up to a limit of $1200/calendar year. So the Dec/Jan trick could see significant work done for not too much.

Thanks fish,
I'll look into it, wasn't aware of that. Pretty sure I had a mailing from my insurance company in the last couple of months encouraging members to use their extras benefits if they haven't already done so this year. Best thing I can do is ring them I suppose.

You must be wondering at this point, how much do Cost of veneers in Sydney? Starting from $1000, costs can increase depending upon the complexness of your specific veneers, since they are practice of long standing made for each person. The number of veneers you get is also a huge factor in the cost of porcelain veneer procedures.

In Sydney Dental costs rise in the CBD too all those captive office workers looking for a filling in their lunch hour have to pay between $50 and $100 extra!

I need a new crown on one tooth with root canal treatment, etc. Been quoted $2700. Health insurance will knock off around $1100 from it. South Africa and Singapore are good places to have a holiday and get quality treatment done cheaply. Are there any other viable offshore possibilities?

A mate at work had a load of stuff done including crowns in Malaysia (KL). Very happy and had a lovely time in the resort between treatments. I can get the details if you'd like.
