Sorry about that...

Just a little irritated with the judgemental stuff and the misinformation. Usually stay well away from this sort of thread, but sometimes...

That's wrong, I'm afraid.

Creditors have 6 years from the date you last awknowledged the debt (i.e. the last payment you made) to find you. Otherwise it is written off.

Thats probably what the CAB or such like institutions may tell you but if they think they can recover at any stage they will!

Actually 6 years refers to the information being held against you and it must be expunged as a default from credit files etc. Thats 6 years from the late you last made a payment or communicated with the creditor, not actually took out the credit.

If no legal action has been taken it is indeed unenforceable, however if a CCJ or High Court Judgement has been issued it can be enforced after 6 years but only if the Judgement Claimant makes application to the Court for this to happen.

Of course this is largely for simple information purposes only as the chances are the matter will have been written off some years before and buried along with the millions of bad debt.

Hi Centurion,
Just out of curiosity, does that mean that, for example, if someone had bad debt and a terrible credit rating and they moved out of the UK for 6+ years, then if they came back they would have no problem getting credit??
