BUT... when it gets checked, and if it is rejected, you may be liable for interest and penalties, along with the original tax.
Claiming for exams is a very odd one. Were you told that it is an allowable deduction ?

You can claim for anything you want to, in your tax return, and get the rebates.

I nearly had another trip back home in April but my flight was cancelled at the last minute due to the vocanic ash cloud. The Univercity emailed the exam to a venue here in Perth and I sat it 20 minutes from my house instead of 24 hours travelling.

I've been claiming for courses and exams for the past 4 years. for my foreign study I was told by my accountant last year that it was allowable as it was work related and would improve my career prospects .
I nearly had another trip back home in April but my flight was cancelled at the last minute due to the vocanic ash cloud. The Univercity emailed the exam to a venue here in Perth and I sat it 20 minutes from my house instead of 24 hours travelling.

The mention of "would improve my career prospects" must only apply to your existing job, and not for a different employment.
