Carbon tax

Re: Carbon tax
If there was a choice between what Gillard is proposing and doing nothing, I say do nothing
MMGW is a Fabian Society dream come true - hence what was announced yesterday

Re: Carbon tax
I know what you mean but I think there were some figures showing that per capita Australia is one of the worst polluters.
The actual level is indeed very negligible but only because we have a very small population. I have no problem in us reducing the amount per capita so we can say "We've done our bit".
Lots of small gains will add up and small gains now are in fact potentially very large gains in the future.
It's the way this government are going about it that just seems so screwball.

Re: Carbon tax
Well I'm seriously seriously pissed off. I had Austar set to record the last Hawaii 5 0 and what have I got? 90% of fricking Gillard whittering really really slowly and then a so called panel of 'experts' whittering about her whittering. 10% of the beginning of H50 is not fricking helpful. Bitch!

Re: Carbon tax
The thing that bothers me about almost all carbon tax plans, this applies to all of them, is that they tend to just shift problems.
When you are exporting coal and iron ore while importing steel from thousands of miles away there is something very fishy going on with any figures you produce regarding carbon dioxide emissions . You've just outsourced the problem really.
When it comes to most sources of pollution your options are really twofold, you can opt to reduce your consumption or reduce the number of people consuming.

Re: Carbon tax
Ah, but some government moron on talkback radio this morning was trying to assure us that it isnt a carbon TAX at all, it is an emissions trading scheme - that's the way the Liarminister is getting out of her promise "there will be no carbon tax under the government I lead" pre election.
It looks very much as if we are following our elders - back in the day of the superstitious, they would sacrifice virgins (and poor old Agamemnon topping his daughter Iphigenia) to get better weather for their endeavours. Nowadays they are sacrificing economies instead.

Re: Carbon tax
Consumption or population aint gonna decrease anytime soon, in fact the reverse is true, so you have to toss these in there too:
#3 - generate energy by cleaner methods.
#4 - neutralize the pollution.
