Default sunny oz & the Flu

Do you residents in the sunnier parts of Oz get the flu or bad colds? Every year over here in winter in NZ the flu invades us. Can last for weeks. And if youve got a few kids goes from one to the other My 3 year old has had a hacking cough for a month now. There has been a particularly bad flu in our area(central Nth island) this year. People flat on their back for 2 weeks. I was hoping the flu would be a rare event over there where the seasonal variations are not as pronounced.

Loads of folk at work have had "flu". My rellies have all been ill and had time off work.

Not been ill yet (touch wood). Good tip - alcohol keeps bugs away. Just look at me!

Flu comes every year even in the sub tropics. You can get vaccinated tho (not just the elderly) costs $22 for the shot.

Most flu's start in this part of the world... they tend to start in Asia and then spread to the rest of the world. We have bad flu's here in Aus most years. But, saying that since I've moved out of Britain .. South East Asia first now Aus I do not get half the colds and flu I used to get in Britain.. it maybe because my own personal immune system is better in a warm country.. I could count on one hand the times I've had the flu or even just a cold in the past 11 years. I maybe one of the lucky ones.. but warm weather seems to suit me, perhaps my own immune system has been boosted up. I also suffer from eczema on my hands... this has almost stopped since leaving Britain (humidity I put it down to.. seems to work wonders) .. only now and again do I break out and that tends to be in the colder drier months , or if I'm under stress.

Cheers
