I find it odd when people try and commiserate with us about 'things not working out', as far as we're concerned things worked out brilliantly! We will no doubt live overseas again within the next few years, maybe Oz, maybe not, maybe we'll move somewhere forever, maybe not.

For context though, I'm not UK born and the country in which I've lived longest is neither the UK nor Oz. I also know that for some it is make or break insofar as moving kids/careers/finances and they don't have the luxury of wandering the world as the whim takes them, so for them perhaps it is more black or white in terms of whether they succeed or fail. For a lot of us though there are a whole host of colours going on!
Well I've pinged ponged between the UK and Oz numerous times so I'm not one to say that moving from one to another means the success or a failure. And it seems in your case your moves were neither here or there either. In fact I'm sitting in the UK right now plotting my next move here. Not because I dislike Australia, I love it, but because there's a great opportunity here going begging and someone needs to snap ot up

BTW, a white Australian giving it to a white Briton is not being 'racist'. British and Australian are not races - saying they are is over-sensitive, PC, socialist nonsense
I'm still wondering why former South Africans are not better regarded in OZ?

The arrogance and superiority label often being cited as a reason, unfairly with exceptions I'd have thought.

Actually witnessed a number of Poms giving it back or starting it leaving Aussies speechless on occasions. Poms being better in general at verbals.

Almost akin to moving states apart from distance. English speaking and similar in so many ways. Hard to consider failure in such circumstances.

Aussies don't mind them at all. I have heaps of South African friends that I made living in Dubai. Living in a really diverse expat community, people from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa formed my main social group, we're very similar creatures really.

As far as I'm aware, with 50+ years experience, I get on with all nationalities I've met and not faced any abuse. I don't, however, get on with dickheads.

The worst rant of nationalistic behaviour I ever experienced was from an Irish girl in Sydney, who seemed very intent on blaming me personally for the potato famine and pretty much all of Ireland's woes thereafter.

Strange girl...

Sorry if you misunderstood my posts but I have been taking advice from a girl who works in the Alloha cafe
Seems the spelling is wrong in that Aloha means " affection peace compassion and mercy in Hawaii "
But I digress the young girl who worked serving tables ( moved to washing dishes as she is rather hard faced and potty mouthed ) told me ;-
"If an Aussie bites you s..t ! give it back with interest "
I do not know if her advice is good in that it tends to generate actually more heat and antagonism ?
I quite like Dads army the British Broadcasting Corporations comedy series
" they don't like it up them do they " ?
Pike I think
As I long serving moderator do you have any idea why over a third of migrants from Britain return ? Seems a waste for both Australia's point of view and indeed for the people returning.
