Hi all, nice to know so many people flying out in May. We leave for Perth on 31st May, got accommodation booked in Mullaloo, for a couple of weeks, then we can travel around and check out where we want to land.

Sold our house, but had to do a swap, a couple wanted ours but hadn't sold theirs, so we bought theirs. Hope to complete middle of May, get house ready to rent, ship our stuff same, OMG, don't know if all will go to plan, but what the heck, gonna live in sunny Perth real soon!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck to everyone out there jetting off!!!!!!!!

We're staying with my auntie in Camira to start with (near Forrest Lake) and will find a rental asap around that area I think. Its still only 30mins-ish to the city.

I am with you on the dream front - wan you imagine what we will all be like when we get there?! Its a crazy feeling. I'm off to France for a week tomorrow to see my grandma - 85 last week! Its a home from home since we were babies, always spent the 6wk summer hols there with her and I think this will be the begining of the sad goodbyes! Am taking my video cam to film the place as not sure when we'll be able to visit there again. Infact, I've started videoing a lots of things just so we have a little reminder and can show our future kids!
I don't know grandparents that live in other countrys.lol That why we are off to malta. Euro disney is a treat for the kids( I meen big kids.lol) Hope the trip goes ok and its not too sad.

We've just this minute filled in the insurance forms for the shippers ( which are booked )
Other than that, OH has finished work already ( jammy b*stid ), I'm finishing on 25th April ( 19 work days left but who's counting ), the same day our stuff gets shipped.
Flights are booked, we have accommodation for the first month with family.
No Jobs, no car, no long term accommodation, just going to wing it.
FUN - I LOVE not knowing whats coming next!!!
Although I am on seek.com.au and realestate.com.au EVERY day.

Thanks for the reminder on the 1 month notice for sky, phones etc.
Not cancelled anything yet, need to get cracking.
Bank accounts are set up, and activated.
All the photos have been scanned, paperwork shredded and cleared.
Got rid of loads of crap, and have found new home for the tropical fish tank.
Computer backed up to external hard-drive.
Pretty pretty visa stamp is in my passport.
Still have to sell cars, and my dad has decided to come stay for a week, the week before the shippers arrive. He did this last time I moved house too ?!?!?!
Odd. But better than having my mother visit

Has anyone done anything about moving pensions, I'm tempted to wait til 6 months after we get there, to make sure I dont have a brain fit when I arrive and want to come straight home. Specially as OH has one of them final salary thingummyjobs.

Oh, and I'm 4 days from rolling out the biggest, scariest, riskiest project of my life. I may be slightly hysterical by the weekend.

We are leaving on 26th May for Sydney. staying in rented for a month, then looking at property in kellyville, As work friends have pointed out 24 work days or 55 days in this country left to go, Nothing like bringing you down to earth. Do not think reality will hit till the remove people come and take away our furniture for the container. All very exciting and also very scary, good luck to all you out there that are making the move...

I finished work today (admin job that I've been at for 7yrs - and closing massage business at the end of this week). I drove away feeling elated, like a 100 weights had been cut from me, and I'm starting to realise that with every little thing I cancel, every piece of junk mail I send back as 'no longer at address', every thing I end of selling on ebay or give to chariy (to lighten the load), I feel that little bit more free, which is both exciting and also a bit scary, like being exposed. When we get to Oz we will have no job (not scared at all, can't wait!!!), we're initially staying with family and will have a nice bit of money in the bank and I believe we will feel free. This is such a foreign concept, feeling free, when you've been geared your whole life to work work work and be stuck in the same place etc. I guess the freedom feeling is counter-balanced by the sadness of leaving people but it still so exhilarating!

So I would love to hear what everyone has done in preparation for their move in May and what they still have left to do. I'm sure I've left lots off my list below! Its certainly not difinitive!
  • I have organised cancellation of broadband to day (30days notice), 14days for BT line so will do in April.
  • Paying off car finance this week then selling car
  • Shipping is booked, just need to fill in forms
  • Started clearing out the flat of bits we don't want to take
  • Sorting out nick-naks to make sure they come with, already have a hand luggage shelf for important mementos!
  • Changing contract phones to Pay&Go
  • Final accounts for work will be done April 5.
Hoping for May to be cleaning everything (oh joy!) and making sure all bills etc paid, sorted, bank accounts closed etc. And of course catching up with people for all those goodbyes!
We (hubby and 3 kids) are leaving Cape Town (South Africa) on 31st May for Brisbane (we are ex UK/Kent).

We have:

Sold our houses (due to complete mid May)
Paid off all debt (credit cards/store cards/car finance)
Given notice at work (last working day for both of us is the 14/05)
Booked shippers
Booked and paid for our flights
Booked accomodation in Brisbane for two weeks
We have started getting rid of all of our unwanted things
We have sold the bulk of the large furniture to the new owners of our house

We still need to:

Finalise our leaving file - references etc
Sell all of the remaining things that the new owners don't want and we can't take with us
Have bikes/sporting equipment professionally cleaned
Arrange our forex (exchange rate is dismal )
Clean the house in preparation for the new owners
Sell the cars

I am sure I must have left something out (?)
