Re: ambulance Insurance
However, regardless of cost it's the one insurance everyone should have imo. To call an ambo without insurance you'd be looking at a bill in the high hundreds.

Re: ambulance Insurance
From the St John website http://www.ambulance.net.au/content....ambulancecover
Billing Policy
St John Ambulance is a ‘user pays’ organisation which means that travelling in an ambulance is not free.
The cost of ambulance transport varies depending on the nature of the call out. Below are our standard fees for the different services we offer.
For insurance against these fees, coverage can be provided through private health insurers such as Health Benefit Fund (HBF). If you are a pensioner you may also be covered for ambulance transport (refer to the Ambulance Cover section below for further information).
Service Fee
Life threatening $779
Urgent $779
Routine Transport $418
Patient Transport Vehicle $383
No GST on private ambulance transport
Ambulance Cover
If you should need ambulance transport, even a short ride could be expensive. The cost of ambulance services is not covered by Medicare. Nor is it covered if you are holding a Healthcare card, Pharmaceutical or Pensioner Benefit Card.
Metropolitan Ambulance Cover
In the metropolitan area St John Ambulance has not operated the Ambulance Cover since 1997.
HBF owns and operates the HBF St John Ambulance Cover.
Please check with your health insurer to see what level of ambulance cover you hold.
See WA Govt ambulance policy for how pension card holders are covered: http://www.ambulancepolicy.health.wa...ions/index.cfm
The HBF ambulance cover policy is very reasonably priced: http://www.hbf.com.au/health-insuran...nce-cover.html

Re: ambulance Insurance
i used to do it through st john direct, when they changed it went straight to hbf and st john said that was the only one who do it now. it was a few years ago though. do you know what it costs for ambo alone with them?

Re: ambulance Insurance
I did a rough calculation for a couple and it came out at approx $73 a year, that is a rough guess but you can do your own calculation on your circumstances but that is a rough idea of what you pay.

We have private health cover which refunds the cost of the ambulance cover.

Re: ambulance Insurance
We took our insurance out about two months ago but discovered recently that if you have a health concession card then Ambulance cover is covered by Medicare so we needn't have taken it out just yet.
