Snow in Central Italy

Snow in Central Italy
We had 10cm of snow last night and the first for 5 years. We are not used to snow so the steep roads go uncleared. The snow has broken a lot of trees making the roads treacherous. The temperature is predicted to fall to -10C tonight so a good day to sit in front of a log fire. I guess the Marche and Abruzzo has more.

For now not that bad here in Abruzzo (25-35 minutes from Montesilvano and about the same to Campo Imperatore). Woke to about 2 inches but it's very cold, expecting more soon.

The move from -13C on Wednesday morning to 12C on Friday afternoon will be ideal for bursting uninsulated water pipes. At least "Big Snow" is staying up north.

We had a good thaw this morning, the sun shone and it looked hopeful until about 12.30. Now clouding over and the sun has disappeared

Pica, as I sit writing this I do believe the view is over to your place and indeed that cloud is just about to cover the lovely sunshine we have had all day
Hopefully not too much more snow on the way, but it is forecast to be cold again tonight. Typical in as much as we only had a couple of cm of snow, but it has blown across the drive down from the house so in small pockets we have 40cm drifts and the occasional 5-6cm thick ice where it has melted, then froze. Might be a few days yet before we get down our drive to the SC road (which of course is clear)

All of our snow had completely gone yesterday but it started up again in the night. The kids never came back home this morning so I'm presuming they got to school okay. School is down in town though and the main road to get there will be clear.
I'm supposed to go to school this afternoon for 2.15pm in a much smaller town a fifteen minute drive away. The snow is still coming down so I don't think I should even get my car out let alone drive it.

Certainly cold weather for the beginning of March. The solar water heating system froze yesterday and that is the first time that has happened.
I had tomatoes and zucchini growing in the polytunnel last March but today we have a dangerous frozen rain. Better than Scotland though.
