Any expats in Kenya..info required
If there's anyone on this forum who's based in Kenya some info would be appreciated.
I require some names of reliable car sales companies within the country - if they have a website even better.
Need to compare the price of buying a 2nd hand 4wd locally or shipping one from the UK.
Would also have to be a LHD if possible as it would be taken to Ethiopia.
Thanks

Well, what can I say. Cars and Kenya is a massive headache. I just moved here and we have now bought a 1991 Pajero in ok nick for 3200 pounds. Cars in Kenya cost a fortune.
Importing is an option but they must be in full working order, no more than 8 years old and RHD. Import costs are about 80-90 % of the cost of the car. Something like a Land Cruiser sourced in the UK for say 12000 quid will end up costing you about 2-2.5 million KSH on the road with papers in Kenya, that is around 20000 pounds.
Decent, old 4x4 like a Pajero, Land Cruiser, Defender or Range Rover can be found but expect to pay at least 300 000 KSH which is about 2700 pounds.
The only upside is that the cars tend to maintain their value so if you spend 300 000 on a car, you can expect to get at least almost 300 000 back after using it for a year. Also, altough the roads range from ok to bloody awful and the suspension normally needs attention, there is no rust and the large 4x4s tend to be ok.
