Well it might be nice reading, but this was 2005 and before the GFC. The job market for accountants in Australia is very tough now and it is better to be prepared for that.

Absolutely right Bermudashorts - there are less jobs out there now.
I think it very much depends on location and good experience, however I've not had any problems changing roles in finance - pre or post GFC, so I havent experienced a very tough market.

HopeShines - Research the current jobs market and some key contacts at the agencies should be able to give you an indication of your marketability.
There are also a couple of 'Working Abroad Australia expos' coming up in Manchester and Dublin in May, from the Immi.gov.au website - Immigration officers will be providing information on applying for skilled migration. I'm sure there will be job agencies there as well, a great opportunity to pump them for info

It is irrelevant whether you have experienced a tough market. It doesnt mean it isnt one. I have been with one company since I moved here in 2010 and personally have not tried to change companies, I would not draw from my own very satisfactory personal situation that it is not tough out there.

No I still know it is a tough market though, because I keep my finger on the pulse, work my agency contacts, keep my eyes open, I see the volume of good applicants for roles and I know how long it is taking good people to find roles after redundancy.

The job market is competitive for accountants, there is no escaping it and better to be prepared.

If I am in a good position here in Egypt, but life atmosphere socially and politicaly is bad. Does the risky trip to OZ worth it?
