How much experience post qualifications?

Hi everyone,
Please can someone clarify just how much experience you need to get through the TRA. After 2 years at college as a mature student, I qualified NVQ2, July 2006. I am currently doing my NVQ3 (1 year) as well as working part time in a salon. I truly love hairdressing! How many years do I need to show TRA to get a positive assessment. The crunch part is I am now 42 (only feel 22 though:D )!!!!!!!
Any suggestions as to ways of getting to Oz sooner. Has anyone gone the 'student' route at such an advanced age?
Are there any other visas which might be suitable? I am open to any advice. If I am fighting a losing battle for entry to Oz then we might consider New Zealand! They will take you upto the age of 55. This immigration process really makes you feel sooooo old!!!
Many thanks
