Default GP work in France

My husband and I were looking to relocate to France to work. He is British/Australian citizen and I am Australian. We also have an 8 year old, 2 and 1 year old. We are wondering if my husband could work in France, even though his French is pretty scratchy. My husband would also be open to other types of work. If he could work there, do patients pay per consult, like here in Australia. We were thinking of moving to France due to its location, also the homes are so cheap compared to here and hoping the cost of living is as well. We could have a house paid off there (much nicer than here) or look forward to paying off a house for the next 20 years here.
