civil engineering positions in Aussie

hey people hope you guys can help with this.
my bf graduated from uni in 2002. he had to wait for almost year to obtain his PR in australia and hence during that period, he was unable to work (most co wouldn't employ him if his PR isn't confirmed).
he just received his PR beginning of this year but has yet been unable to get any civil engineering jobs as most of the graduate programs are sourcing for fresh graduates and others are looking for experienced engineers.

he had applied to many job agencies as well as sending out resume personally but alas no luck so far.

we are in Brisbane and would like to find out if it's really that difficult to find a civil engineering job here? any help as to how to break out of this unlucky cycle would be truly appreciated :) thanks!

Hi, not sure how your bf is going to get his foot in the door so to speak but there is def. plenty of Civ Eng work around in OZ at the moment, particularly Perth I believe for draughtsman (that's what I am).

Can you explain again why he wasn't working after he got his degree in the UK or wherever while waiting for his PR ? Not sure I understand ? Was he already in Oz ?

Andy.
