Australian experience?

Hi,

I'm a civil/structural cad designer/draughtsman/drafter/technican/whatever! and have been looking at ads for the above on job sites down under.

They all seem to say in their blurb something about "3 to 5 years experience in an Australian Consultancy"

Do you think this maybe a problem for me? Do you think if I worked contract/agency at first I would get round this?
Agents I have spoken to there say no problem getting me work but we've all heard that before haven't we?

cheers
Andy

It's going to depend on the employer and how easy or otherwise they find it to recruit. If you meet the requirements in other respects, go for it.

As I may have said before, it's going to be a lot less hard if you have PR and are physically in Australia.

Thanks Jeremy. Not going for another 3 years, got PR, now waiting for my wife to qualify as Mental Health nurse.
I believe there is quite a skills shortage over there at the mo but no doubt in 3 or 4 years when I get there they will have sorted it.

I've been working on contract here for years and although I'm planning to go "staff" when I get there I reckon it should be easy enough to get contract work at first until I have oz. experience.

Andy.
