Working holiday visa in Australia and wanting to live here permanent!
Hi all
Me and my partner have moved to perth on a 1 year working holiday visa. We are wanting to stay here. What is the 1st step?
How do we get a permanent visa?
Do you have to leave Australia to get one?
I am also wanting to fly my dog over from Newcastle in the UK. Does anyone know the timescale to have him flown over and out of quarantine?
And advice would be amazing x

The place to start for Aussie visas is http://www.immi.gov.au/skills/skillselect/ to see if your skiills etc are eligible for a permanent visa, and then post any questions in our Australian Immigration Forum
As for questions such as how to import your dog, if you look in our Aussie Lifestyle Forum you'll find lots of posts from people who've done just that - its not cheap though!

It is not too difficult to take pets over to Australia but allowing plenty of time is key.
Veterinary Requirements (Dogs):
Pets need a rabies vaccination within 12 months of the flight date and at least 60 days before the flight, (ideally 6-12 months before travel for min. 30 days quarantine).
They then need a rabies blood sample at least 5 months before and not more 12 months prior to their flight. It can be less than 5 months before their flight date, but they will have to spend longer in Australian quarantine if that is the case.
Dogs travelling to Australia will need a vaccination against Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus and Parainfluenza within 12 months of the flight.
Your dog will also require a kennel cough vaccine at least 14 days before travel.
If you get the routine vaccinations done, then please DO NOT include the Leptospira part as this will make the sample come back positive.
They too will need treatments and checks within 4 days of the flight and will also need blood samples taken within 30 days of the flight.
Dogs travelling to Australia have to serve 30 days quarantine in Australia on landing in either; Sydney, Melbourne or Perth. Once the import permit has been applied for then quarantine can be booked. At busy times of year the quarantine booking may need to be made up to 4 months before the flight date.
Please be aware that Byford (Perth) quarantine station is closed until 31st May and it is possible that it may not re-open even after that date so your dog may have to do quarantine in Sydney and then do an internal flight to Perth afterwards.
