Single Mum moving to Costa del Sol
..Looking for new friends
Hello I am Paula and I am taking a huge leap of faith and relocating myself and my two children to the Costa del Sol in October. Not sure whether to go to Manilva or play safe with Calahonda. Both are close the Aloha College where the kids will go to school.

Hi Paula,
Welcome to BE. I'm in the US so can't help with tips on living and working in Spain, but we have a very active Spain forum so please pop into that forum and say hi and I'm sure everyone will be happy to help.
I would suggest reading through a few of the threads to get a feel for the place too.
Here are some recent threads to start you off:

Re: Single Mum moving to Costa del Sol
I really hate to sound negative, BUT the Spanish unemployment rate is around 40 - 50% and this is native Spanish. There are NO benefits that you could claim there. You would have to pay for your health care as there is no free health service, and there have been changes recently in the requirements for residency which mean you have to prove enough income and to have organised healthcare.
You would need to have private means to fund everything as, unless you are extremely lucky, jobs are almost non existent, the Spanish unemployment is dire, and you would need to prove that you have sufficient income and that you have healthcare provisions before you could get residency, which you would probably need to get schooling unless you paid for schooling at an international school.

Hello and a big welcome to BE.
Excellent information can be found in the BE Wiki, not forgetting the Living and Moving Abroad forum that will help you, another set of great help is the permanent threads at the TOP of each forum, they are very pertinent to that particular forum and makes sensible reading.
Moderators deal with any problems that arise such as inappropriate posts, spammers etc, you will find their names at the bottom right hand side of each forum's index in bold font.
Please contact me if I can give you any further help.
