Sheffield, UK to Auckland, NZ
Hi there! Just an obligatory introductory post!
My fiance got a job offer from the Health Board in Auckland to start in January 2017 for one year. At the moment we're running around trying to sort out our wedding which will be on the 2nd of December, then try to get our house ready for being rented out!!
The hardest part so far has been having to sort new homes for our 3 cats as we didn't want to drag them to the other side of the world for just one year. So far we've been lucky and we have family and friends who have offered to take them. The other hard thing has been paying for everything...perhaps deciding to get married and emigrate at the same time was a poor decision! We're scraping through somehow by just selling as much of our stuff as we can, which is good anyway as we have far too much.
I have applied for a partner visa based on my other half's work visa, haven't applied for anything yet but I work in geoenvironmental/geotechnical, environment and construction, so I'm hopeful my skills will be useful to New Zealand.
It's going to be nice to get to you you all, I do have two UK friends who have been in Auckland for 18 months and going for permanent residency, but it will be nice to know some more expats who are around. We don't know if we will return to UK after the 12 months or stay on. We both thought we should find out

Thank you very much! I did have a look at that cucumber thread and it made me giggle....only because I can't stand them!!

Hi! Oh wow, Texas must be so different to Sheffield, I've never been. Hope you're enjoying it out there. I'm from Norfolk and Lincolnshire originally, and then lived in Leeds and Sheffield. I think it has had a fair bit of change in the last 3 years but Hillsborough is pretty much still the same, haha!
