Default second hand buying in Italy

Hi All

This is my first post on BritishExpats.com and I'm looking for a little advice please.

Whilst not strictly an ExPat yet (unfortunately the premium bonds haven't come up yet), we're looking to move to Tuscany eventually. We've recently bought a little house in Tuscany and are planning to travel out four or five times a year (maybe more if we're lucky!).
The most expensive thing in our trips out is usually the car hire; so I thought we might buy a little second hand car out there and keep it in our cantina when we're not there. Can anyone give me some advice on how to buy a second hand car in Italy please?
There don't seem to be any Italian equivalents of the 'British second hand car lots' and the local papers don't seem to advertise used cars.

Alternatively, we were thinking of taking my wife's car to Italy and leaving it there for us to use...does anyone know about the approximate costs of car insurance and road taxc (we have a Fiat Panda)? Would we have to register it in Italy, or could we carry on using it on English plates?

Many thanks
Franco

Welcome to BE Franco.

Below is the link to our Italy forums. As people actually living in Italy will be able to help you better than the people who post in this forum...I suggest you open a new thread there.
