Default Scottish guy looking to work in Canada

Hello

I am a 26 year old male looking to gain employment within a marketing role in Vancouver. I currently live in Glasgow - Scotland and I am looking to move to Canada in May/June this year to work for at least a year.

I have a BA in Marketing (with honours) from Caledonian University and currently work in a digital marketing and web design agency in Glasgow. I have experience in research, advertising, online/offline marketing, customer relationship marketing and copy writing.

I have never done any real travelling and I am struggling to find the right information about gaining employment in my field in Vancouver.

I've came across a number of websites offering internships and working holidays, but this isn't what I’m looking for.

Ideally I want to get a job in advance of coming to Vancouver BC, find accommodation and move - Can it be that simple?

Apologies if my message seems daft, but I really don't know the best route to take. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Well, you've neglected to mention one rather important part of the process - visa! Do you already have a visa, or do you need to find an employer to go through the paperwork/hassle/wait of hiring you?

You said you've seen info about the Working Holiday Visa, any particular reason why you've discounted that? It would certainly be your easiest option if you don't already a visa.

Head over to the Canada forum and hopefully you'll find answers to your questions. Hope to see you there soon.

Thanks for replying.

I understand I'll have to get a Visa along with lots of other fun forms to fill in. I'm ok with that and will have this sorted if I get a job :/

With regards to the working holiday stuff I just think it's more for recent graduates? Please excuse my ignorance if that isn't the case, I just assumed they are similar to internships and I have been working in my field since I left University 3 years ago.

Cheers for your feedback mate.

But are you aware of the LMO process? Just that you haven't mentioned it yet, and it can put a lot of employers off unless you have specialist skills and are worth the paperwork/wait to them.

No, it's for anybody up to the age of 30. And it's not an internship, it's an open work permit for a year - so you can do any job, and are instantly employable (rather than a normal TWP, when the employer has to jump through hoops to hire you).
