Hi Martin & Karen, welcome to BE.
You have posted in the Welcome Inn, which is a good place to start, but where are you interested in buying a holiday home? We have separate sub-forums for France Italy, Spain, Portugal and several other countries in Europe, so if you post any questions you may have in the relevant forum the people living there should be able to help you.
Assuming that you're looking at a country in Europe, Brexit has made a permanent move to countries in Europe more difficult, but certainly not impossible with some advance planning. The biggest potential hurdle is any financial requirements as Brexit ended the possibility of someone on low income retiring to Spain or Portugal. To some degree or other, you now need to prove than you have the means and income to support yourself.
Please also take a moment to read the Site Rules.

Just remember that, unless you are holders of either an EU passport or one of you is an EU national you will need a visa since the UK's divorce from the EU via Brexit.
