Newbie looking for advice !

Hi Everyone,

I am sure you all hear this all the time but ............ We are looking to leave the UK. We have talked about it for the last 10 years ! But due to family commitments (looking after elderly relatives) we have never done it.

We used to own property in Florida (I know as alot of people do!) My husband has always wanted to live there but I think we are now resigned to the fact that it will be impossible for us to go there.

So my question is, where is the easiest place to move to that has a better climate than Devon (which has to be the wetest place I have ever lived!) that we can find work, as in jobs ? We canot go to somewhere like Australia as we do not have the skills so I am thinking Europe. We have run our own businesses in the past (pubs) , my husband has been in sales for years (cars and windows!) I am now a cook !

Thanks in advance, Glad I have stopped reading and finally joined :)

Hey. Hey. Hey.
Welcome to BE. I'm right across the world in New Zealand but didn't leave the UK 'til I was 50

If you want to explore your options then this is the place to come. :)

Hi and a big welcome from Spain. Employment in Spain at the moment is quite difficult if you are Spanish so an incomer I presume would find it even worse but I could be wrong. If you are undecided about a destination why not put a post in the different sections of BE (countries that interest you) to test the water regarding the availability of work.

Thank You Rosemary, will do that.

It is a large site but if you pick a few countries that you are interested in you will narrow it down considerably. There are plenty of people willing to help if they can. Read the site rules and any of the permanent threads to gain an insight into each countries paperwork etc.

Hello and welcome to BE.

44 is certainly not too old to start afresh in a new country. In that case I suggest you take a browse down the list of countries in the Living and Moving Abroad forum and take a read through the threads in some of the forums. As you mentioned Europe...take a look at the Europe Forums.

Also take a look in the BE Wiki...there's loads of information in there.

BE is a large expat website...so it's understandable that you may have problems finding your way around our many forums. We have a team of concierges who will direct you around the website. You can find a list of their names at the bottom right hand side of this page.

For all other problems or concerns please contact a moderator...their names are located at the bottom right hand side of each forum's index page. Moderators' names are in bold font.

Before you post please read any 'sticky' threads or announcements that are posted at the top of each forum's index page.

Please give me a shout if you need any help.

Hi Afitos

Welcome to BE.

At 44 - you are only actually 4 - because they say life begins at 40 ! That means you have lots of time to live your dreams.
I would definitely advise checking out a few of the different forums for countries that you like the sound of. All the forums are pretty friendly and have people who will willingly help answer any questions you have.

Just jump in and give it a try.

Good luck whatever you decide and wherever you end up

Dread - x

Hey! :)

Devon? Wettest place you've ever lived?? Try living in Manchester!

Hope you find all the information you're looking for here. I've made a nuisance of myself asking questions due to my total lack of knowledge about Visa's but the great people here have really helped me!

Good luck.
