Nearly forgot this bit!

Greetings from Bristol UK.
Ideally, would love to move to the US, although I know this is never going to happen due to the oh-so-difficult green card, but I'll never give in.

Kind of forced in semi-retirement, this 50 year old (this year) was offered EVR from Royal Mail whom I was associated with for 30 years, and now doing a part-time job with the lovely title of 'Non-working Supervisor!'

Any tips on attaining the dream, welcomed!

Hi Zaphod

Welcome to BE

I see you have found our USA forum which is probably the best place to get advice about how likely it is to move to the USA, although I am assured it is extremely difficult...unless you take a holiday home for several months each year which may serve as an alternative to keep your dream alive.

All the best anyway - hope you can find a way

Thanks for the warm welcome. Yes, indeed a holiday home would be an option I'd be happy with, six months a time, isn't it (?), but SWMBO says all or nothing!

Well Zaphod - you will just have to turn on your powers of persuasion or earn some high grade brownie points - and maybe just maybe SWMBO will come around to the idea of 6 months at a time - especially if you go for one of the states where it offers winter sunshine......

All the very best to you - you know the saying 'where there's a will there's a way'

Have to ask - what exactly is a 'non working supervisor'?

I wondered, too, when the job came along!
Supervising (actually managing) a team of 22 cleaners at a school deep in Somerset. Pay is really good, for what the job is.

Hello and a big welcome to BE.

Excellent information can be found in the BE Wiki, not forgetting the Living and Moving Abroad forum that will help you, another set of great help is the permanent threads at the TOP of each forum, they are very pertinent to that particular forum and makes sensible reading.

Moderators deal with any problems that arise such as inappropriate posts, spammers etc, you will find their names at the bottom right hand side of each forum's index in bold font.

Please contact me if I can give you any further help.

Thank you, Indianfriend, and Rosemary. As I had already guessed, the more I look into this, the more impossible it becomes. SWMBO, is still determined with her all or nothing stance, tonight. TBH, I think she is right.

Gutted, but I'll persevere. What was that line from Galaxy Quest? 'Never give in. Never surrender' ?

:D

Hi zaphod welcome to BE! Keep on chasing that dream and it will be yours. Just wanted to say that. LOL
