Hi there.
I can't help with any of that as I emigrated to New Zealand a few years back but just want to wish you a warm welcome to this little corner called British Expats.

Here is the link to BE's Africa forum...perhaps you could repost your questions in there. Hopefully there will be someone who can help you with your concerns. Good luck.

Try to talk him out of moving to the congo it is considered one of the most dangerous places on earth. There is no way that i would move there with 4 children. Just google congo and see what comes up. Dont take a risk like that.

Got to admit I was curious about this move. I checked with the foreign office website. (It's a good resource)
http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-living-abroad/
First thing that surprised me was that there are two Congos...! Just shows my ignorance. Anyway there is a republic of Congo and a democratic republic of Congo. The democratic republic seems to be in the worst state at the moment and has the highest risk.
Anyway hope you get some helpful feedback from the African sub forum whichever one you are considering going to.
Cheers,
