Default Moving Home

Hello all,

Just joined today...sorry I didn't find this site long ago. I'm a British ex-pat who left home with my parents back when I was 14. That was so long ago that I'm now about to retire and move back to England! I'll be moving back to Norfolk in April 2012 and am very excited to be doing so. I guess that's enough of an introduction for now.

Hey Richard...welcome to BE.

Your story is a familiar one on this site...many of us decide to return home as retirement looms. Take a read through some of the thread in the Moving Back To The UK Forum...for other expat experiences. We have a great crowd of very helpful members who post in those forums...so if you post any questions you may have regarding the move home I'm sure you get some helpful replies. Also take a look in the BE Wiki.

We have a team of concierges who will act as your tour guides if you need help navigating your way through the many BE forums. You can find a list of our concierge's at the bottom right hand side of this forum's index page.

Any problems or concerns should be addressed to a moderator...you can find the mod's name at the bottom right hand side of each forum's index page. Moderators' names are in bold print and concierges' names are in standard print.

Please let me know if I can be of any further help. Good luck.

Hello and a big welcome to BE.

Excellent information can be found in the BE Wiki, not forgetting the Living and Moving Abroad forum that will help you, there is also a lot more information in the Europe Forums. Yet another set of great help is the permanent threads at the TOP of each forum, they are very pertinent to that particular forum and makes sensible reading.

Moderators deal with any problems that arise such as inappropriate posts, spammers etc, you will find their names at the bottom right hand side of each forum's index in bold font.

Please contact me if I can give you any further help.

Hi Richard,

I've been away from home a very long time myself.

I wish you well ... and don't half envy you.

Best, Christian

Cool Re: Moving Home

Thank you for the warm welcome. My wife, Terri (who is American) and I travel back to Norfolk a couple of times a year to visit with friends and my father and sisters live in the south Yorkshire area so England is still very much home to me and now to her. It is rather living out a dream to go back. We've visited often enough to understand the reality of the undertaking, but love the country life so we're very excited. Thank you for the tips on which forums to peruse. This is a new format to me, so I'll probably have Terri doing the navigating!

Father lives in Dronfield, one sister in Huddersfield and the other in Gringley on the Hill. Where in S. Yorkshire is your home and why are you so far from it? It certainly is beautiful, beautiful country.

I used to live in Sheffield...moved to Cheshire when I was 20. We moved to the US 15 years ago with my husband's job.
