Hi Ben,

Welcome to BE.

I think the first thing you need to do is narrow down the countries that you are looking to move to and see what their requirements are, and if a mechanic is on their skills in demand etc list.

For instance you can rule out the USA because their immigration system is not based on points such as Australia. Normally (if not marrying an American citizen) you have to have a degree, or many years of experience in a specialist field and even then with the current economic climate it would be extremely difficult to find an employer to sponsor a visa. There are US mechanics who are finding it difficult to find work.

So what countries are you interested in?

Hello and a big welcome to BE.

Excellent information can be found in the BE Wiki, not forgetting the Living and Moving Abroad forum that will help you, another set of great help is the permanent threads at the TOP of each forum, they are very pertinent to that particular forum and makes sensible reading.

Moderators deal with any problems that arise such as inappropriate posts, spammers etc, you will find their names at the bottom right hand side of each forum's index in bold font.

Please contact me if I can give you any further help.

Rosemary

Welcome to BE and good luck!

Have you any thoughts to moving else where in the EU? At least you'd not have to worry about a visa that way and there are plenty of countries where language won't be a issue if that's a concern :)

Well to be fair Iv narrowed it down to two countries?, I used to work in Los Angeles as a vehicle tech and I came home on compassionate grounds so I now all about there immigration process. Probably oz is the way to go because my occupation is high on there job shortage list.
