Default Looking for an escape

Hi everyone, I have joined the forum as myself and my partner want to escape from the UK. I (30) am a qualified nurse currently working for a multinational medical devices company as a clinical specialist, my partner (30) is a communications assistant for the NHS. Relocation with my company may be an option but as I have only been with them for 9 months it's too soon to ask. If we can get away sooner that is what we want to do. Any advice on where we could go would be great! Trying to avoid Oz and NZ due to the distance for our parents to visit. We will consider Asia, America (North and South) and Caribbean and any other English speaking countries So hello and thanks for any advice we can get!

Hi there and welcome to the forum

Suggest you look through the individual forums and check out which countries you may qualify for a visa. Happy planning.

Hi, thanks for you replies. A communications assistant is similar to a press officer. Basically press, pr and marketing. Is there any search tool which will show me which countries we would be eligible to work in? Thanks!

Nope, you'd need to look at the Wiki for each country to see if you're likely to stand a chance of getting a visa. Although if it helps, the US isn't likely so you can probably cross that off the list!

Best of luck.

I would certainly cross the USA off your list, and would suspect thta you would need your nursing qualifications assessed for all the countries, and also factor in the language problems as well, you would need to be fluent.

Wow it took all of 6 posts (2 of which coming from me) for a hugely helpful and positive response. As it goes Mike I am fluent in the English language and you may notice from my original post I specified almost exclusively English speaking countries. I also realise that I can't just stroll into a hospital and slap my English nursing degree on the counter and expect that to be all they need to inundate me with job offers. I appreciate the helpful messages encouraging me to look further within the forum, so thanks for those. However if the last post is to be believed I might not bother looking any further as there is no point. On a side note I had a look at a few of your other posts Mike, you really are a positive guy......good work.

Many people do come on BE thinking they can breeze into other countries so I don't think Mike was intending to be rude.

Many of them also immediately get shirty if told the truth.

I appreciate that is the case. However this is a forum, a community based network for sharing information not stamping on peoples hopes! Perhaps if he had asked a little more about me he may have garnered enough information to say what he did above. Interestingly the country I probably stand the best chance with is the US as my employer is an American company and staff regularly relocate and I have been told further down the line this is an option, but that is incidental. I came here for helpful advice as to where else I should consider, I fail to see the benefit of or advice in the post, it appears to be very dismissive.

I think Mike may have been referring to your mention of Asia and possibly Canada, which also has Canadian French as a first language. You ruled out NZ and AUS yourselves, and US is most likely not an option - I'm not sure where else speaks English as a first language.

So of those countries - which would you consider?

The major countries have their own forums for specifics, and we also have a rest of the world section - http://britishexpats.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=62

Well as I mentioned above I would consider Asia, the Caribbean, and Canada. I'm open to suggestions though. I am aware that there are individual sections however as stated in the forum rules I introduced myself here first.

Your introduction does seem to have gotten a little side tracked, but as originally mentioned, you would need to ask in each country forum about migration. There is also a general nursing section - http://britishexpats.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=72 - which may be helpful at exploring options.

Good luck

You may be better off doing the research yourself, that old guy seems a bit of a Victor Meldrew to me.
