Hi there from sunny Toulouse, France

Hi there, it's lovely to find such a vibrant community and I look forward to getting to know you all more. I've been a British Expat for 11 years now - though there's murmurings in the family about re-patriating at some point in the not too distant future. We'll have to see how that goes. My husband is French and we moved out here when my husband was offered a job here and I decided I needed a change of direction. Prior to moving, I'd been a psychologist for the Ministry of Defence for 7 years and was at risk of becoming type-cast as a military psychologist - very specialised area of an already specialised area..

So off we toddled with our (then) small children and I set about relaunching my own career and that's where all the adventures really began! Even as a psychologist, I found it a very confusing and long-drawn out process to re-start a career in a new country. For a start, there wasn't even a word in French, really, for what I did for a living! But eventually I decided I needed to figure out a better way of approaching this process and so at the end of 2008, I pitched a proposal to an international conference for some research on just that very topic.. and when it was accepted, I dived in to doing the research! That was really a watershed moment for me and I'll be eternally grateful to the intrepid group of people who took part in my study. :D

Apart from that, our children are now not-so little and the eldest is even stretching her wings and getting ready to fly. Time passes so quickly! Also I think that this will be the year when I become the shortest person in the house as my youngest is about to pass me in height.. And we have a little farm in the middle of the French countryside outside Toulouse with a variety of other animals to keep us busy including 4 horses, 3 cats and 2 energetic collies.

See y'all around the forum. :)

Hi, and welcome to the Forum! This section is for world-wide introductions - post again on the France forum and you'll find plenty of members in the Toulouse area (not to mention the rest of us!) to exchange info and advice:)
