Default Hi everyone!

Hi,
I'm considering moving abroad with my son age 8 in the next couple of years but am not 100% sure on where yet. Australia or New Zealand are hot favorites but, I feel like Aus will probably have more to offer but I'm shit scared of snakes and spiders and anything creepy and crawly which, and I know it sounds stupid, but really puts me off! NZ on the other hand is so beautiful and I love being outside doing sports and spending time with my son, plus there's no deadly spiders or snakes!
I'll be a qualified Psychotherapist very soon as my course is nearly finished and I do have some valuable experience but am hoping to be fully accredited and have a Masters degree under my belt before moving.
As you may have guessed I would be going alone with my son so I need to make the right decision otherwise I could end up making the biggest mistake of my life. I know a few people who have moved to Aus so feel like I have a bit of support there. I'd be very much alone in NZ though.
What do you think? Any advice would be great, thanks!

Hi there and welcome to the forum.

Is see that you've posted in New Zealand already. Why not do the same in the Oz forums?

A useful link is www.immi.gov.au for Australian immigration.

I take it you mean that you'd be alone in NZ as well as Australia? They are both a long way from home of course.

We don't hear of many unfortunate encounters with snakes and spiders from peeps who have settled here. Yes they are a pest but to me, no worse than wasps in the UK. You get used to it.

It's a big step obviously. I think perhaps you may need to get some work experience under your belt first, but best to ask in the relevant forums.

Good luck anyway and enjoy B.E.

Thanks!

Yeah, I mean I will be alone with my son. So I suppose I'm concerned that I wouldn't have the support of a partner throughout the move... Which means I must have no doubt in my mind that I'm doing the right thing.

I am worried that if I leave it too long before moving then I will be too old to start over, or my son will get to an age where he can firmly say he does not want to go!

I will post in the Oz forums too, thanks.
