Hi From Canada
Just found this forum at a time in my life when I am seeking all the help, information and advice I can get. You see I am 75 years old, have lived in Canada for the past 21 years, and now giving some serious thought to moving back to Bonnie Scotland. Big decision I know, still trying to make up my mind.

Hi Dollface, nothing is carved in stone yet, we are looking at all the options.
My wife is more keen on the move than me. All our family are back in Scotland, and we would be giving up so much to go back. We have a nice bungalow here, no mortgage, nice quite area, nice neibours, two cars, I still have a job, my wife is much younger than me and she has a good job. I know its a big decision but nothing will happen for at least one year. We are going back next May for a 3 week vacation and have a good look round, and see how we feel then.

Welcome to BE!
A long visit back seems a good idea if you can swing it. Lots of conflicting info here between the Canada forum and the "Moving Back..." one, so really you have to decide for yourself. Family ties are a tough one to get over, but also places you think you know can change a lot too.

Yes Family Ties and Roots are really hard to forget, then you think is it worth giving up everything you have worked hard for over the past 21 years, leaving a comfortable life here with no stress, no financial worries, no problems at all, to start all over again back in Scotland. Is just being close to Brothers and Sisters worth giving up all that. There is no doubt going back to Scotland would not be for material gain. Now I am giving myself worries and problems I have never had for years. Is it all worth it, I wonder. eh!!

Hi
I am looking into moving to Canada but I am from Edinburgh originally. Havent lived there for 10 years and now been back there for 8 months. It is not what I remember and it is not what I want!
The best advice is to have an extended holiday and see what you think!
