Hi There,
Wonder if someone out there could give me some advice?
I would like to emigrate to Australia and have found out that the system for entry is changing on 1st July 2012. Becoming more difficult so I hear.
Basically I received an advanced dilpoma in management accounting from Cima about 7 years ago and have worked as a managemeent accountant since then. I stopped studying for a while and then finished my last Cima exam around 2 years ago but due to being lazy really did not do send in my application for my letters until October last year.
Both the Australain CPA and CA who I contacted have said they would probably give me a poitive assesment due to me being ACMA but I would not be able to get any work experience valid until from Oct 2011. I checked and a Cima Advanced diploma is a level 6 qualification in the UK the same as a bachelors and the ACMA is the same as a masters. It seems a bit harsh that I can not claim prior work experience as my job has not really changed much since becominig a ACMA. My argument really is that although I do not have a degree surely becoming a past finalist 2 years ago is at least the same as a bachelors as you do not need experience to get a bachelors?
Any ideas and also if I do have to wait until October 2012 any ideas if Management Accountants will still be on the shortage list?
Many Thanks
Ray Smith

Hi Ray
Welcome to BE
I see you have already found your way to our Australia Immigration forum, where I am sure some of the good folks on there will be able to ofer you useful advice and information. It does seem a little unfair to discount previous experience in the field, so maybe someone already living and working in Oz will have some suggestions for you.
We also have a Accountants forum where you can chat to other folks in the accountancy world who have moved abroad. This would be an ideal forum to check out as if anyone will know the answers for you it will be another accountant living and working in Australia - and it's a great forum for networking with fellow professionals.
You will find the Accountant forum by clicking the 'forum index' tab at the top left of this page, scroll down past the list of countries to the next section entitled 'Working abroad by profession', then double click on the word 'accountants' and you're in. Just pop a post on there and see what replies you get.
In the meantime I wish you all the very best with your plans and hope our forums are able to help you on your way

Hi Ray,
Welcome to BE. I see you reposted your question in the Australia forum, hopefully someone will be along soon who has experience in that field to give you a few pointers.
In the meantime take some time to browse the other threads and get to know everyone.

Hello and a big welcome to BE.
Excellent information can be found in the BE Wiki, not forgetting the Living and Moving Abroad forum that will help you, another set of great help is the permanent threads at the TOP of each forum, they are very pertinent to that particular forum and makes sensible reading.
Moderators deal with any problems that arise such as inappropriate posts, spammers etc, you will find their names at the bottom right hand side of each forum's index in bold font.
Please contact me if I can give you any further help.
