HELP NEEDED!! Steps to moving to Canada

Please could somebody give me some useful advice and hints on where to begin?
I am an ex British Serviceman of 18 yrs currently working as a contract linguist in Afghanistan in order to save and be able to move and settle in Canada with my partner and child. I have been in Afghanistan for almost 1 year and believe the contract may soon be ending. I plan to possibly use my HGV Class 1 Driving Background, Security consultancy background or my Close protection/Surveillance qualifications coupled with top level security clearances to assist me with finding work there.
Is there a particular order of priority? Do i find work, move and then file for permanent residency...I know very little about the whole process, only that I have had amazing times in Canada previously and am determined to re locate there. Any advise would be great, thank you :fingerscrossed:

Hi, Andy, and welcome to BE.

There are over 50 routes to a visa for Canada, so first you need to figure out which may suit you. Have a read of this Wiki article, and then head over to the Canada forums where you can ask more questions. http://britishexpats.com/wiki/Quick_...an_Immigration

Look forward to seeing you there!

Hello and a big welcome to BE.

Excellent information can be found in the BE Wiki, not forgetting the Living and Moving Abroad forum that will help you, another set of great help is the permanent threads at the TOP of each forum, they are very pertinent to that particular forum and makes sensible reading.

Moderators deal with any problems that arise such as inappropriate posts, spammers etc, you will find their names at the bottom right hand side of each forum's index in bold font.

Please contact me if I can give you any further help.

Rosemary
