Default Hello from O-H-I-O

Hello there gentle BritishExpats member, I have just registered here last night after my wife clued me in to this site while we were looking for info on this whole SiriusXM debacle where they removed BBC Radio 1.

(Latest news is they're bringing it back on Friday... Online only. On the same website that requires a monthly fee to listen online, on top of your regular subscription fee. What a joke )

A little about me: I'm 26 years old, I moved to the USA to marry my wife on a K-1 Visa after spending 3 and a half years basically working any temp job I could find to save money to buy a plane ticket, then make ample use of the US' 90 day tourist visa, come back and rinse and repeat.

I'm originally from a medium sized town in Berkshire and sometimes miss it quite a bit. I've been running back and forth between the UK and US about once or twice a year since 2004 when I was 19. I'm not particularly fond of Cincinnati personally, but Unfortunately I didn't have much of a choice in where my wife was at the time

Hoping to someday find myself in a much more well known part of the US to entice friends and family to come on holiday because I get a lot of "Ohio? what's in Ohio?"

And that's my story so far at least

Welcome to BE,

I feel your pain on the SiriusXM thing, I've been a subscriber for 5 years, solely so I could listen to Radio 1, so I know exactly how you feel.

I have never been to Ohio, so can't comment there. I'm in Charlotte and although it's fairly close to things (relatively speaking) you still have a bit of a drive to visit places, and when family have been once there isn't much to show them the next time .. unless they liking shopping Saying that it's got good weather most of the year.

I'm sorry that loosing your fav radio channel brought you to us, but hopefully being a member of BE will take a sting out of things a little.

Hello there...welcome aboard.

Is your wife an existing BE member? We have quite a few members living in Ohio...maybe you will make a few real life as well as cyber friends on BE. Why don't you pop over there to our US Forums and take a look around?

If you require any assistance finding your way around BE's many forums we have a team of concierges who will act as your tour guide...they will be pleased to help you. The concierge for the US forums is Kaffy Mintcake...please contact her if you need pointing in the right direction.

If you have any problems or concerns please contact a mod or admin. The mods for the US forums are Bob and MsElui.

Please give me a shout if I can be of further help. I look forward to seeing you in the US forums.

She is not as far as I'm aware at this time. We've both been longtime members of Visajourney though, finding this website definitely looks like its going to be a useful coping mechanism against the homesickness that we all suffer.

Hi and welcome to Ohio!! I'm in the top corner of the state (Cleveland suburbs). At least you won't get all the snow in Cincinnati that we get up here. I've been here 20 years but still can't get used to the horrible cold and snowy winters. I've been to Cincinnati many times as my daughter went to college not too far from there. It's a nice city. If you're ever up this end of the state, stop by and see the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Have you managed to find a job here or does your visa not allow you to work?

Hi, I came the opposite way -- from Ohio to the UK. Cleveland was where I grew up but I married an English girl and now live in the UK. You've got to get up to Cleveland sometime and visit the "Flats", the metroparks system, Rock & Roll museum and get out on Lake Erie. Sandusky is great in the summer and not far from the roller coaster parks, etc.

Hope you enjoy it.

im in Columbus Ohio so right in the middle. We still get lots of snow but not terrible like the Weasel Lovers up in Michigan.

I had never even heard of columbus when we got the job offer here and non eof my firends had so noone comes to visit except close rellies. However - i am very happy here and have no plans to move!

Welcome anyway! several more folks on BE are down your way - on the southern Ohio - northern Kentucky border.
