Default Hello from Hungary!

Just joined; lived in Southern Hungary now for 7 years in a small village between Pécs and Kaposvar. I'm retired, no family, but I am so glad I moved here - my connection with Hungary is my father's family were Szekler and Magyar.

Hi and welcome to the BE forums, I see you have already found you way over to the Hungarian section. As concierge for the Hungarian section, feel free to give me a shout should you need any help.

Whereabouts in Hungary are you living now? Have you managed to master the language yet

Thanks for the welcome! I live in a village near Sásd. As for the language, as a child I was fluent because my grandpa used to talk to me in it, but he died a long time ago and none of the family could speak it, not even my dad, so I slowly lost it. And I'm not too great at languages though my German is okay so I use that if I get stuck. But we do have some English speakers here so it's not too bad. If I get really stuck, I have a friend in Pécs who helps me out with the more important things.

Hello and a big welcome to BE.

Excellent information can be found in the BE Wiki, not forgetting the Living and Moving Abroad forum that will help you, another set of great help is the permanent threads at the TOP of each forum, they are very pertinent to that particular forum and makes sensible reading.

Moderators deal with any problems that arise such as inappropriate posts, spammers etc, you will find their names at the bottom right hand side of each forum's index in bold font.

Please contact me if I can give you any further help.

Rosemary

Hello, Rosemary and thanks for the welcome.

Actually I have lived most of my long life outside the UK, so moving here was a peach of an adventure. I spent my early years in Berlin, then when we went back to London I always spent my summer holidays with my grandpa in Vienna - which is my most favorite city of all. By choosing to move here, I have the best of both worlds, a train ride to Vienna as and when I want to go there - and also a train to Berlin as I still have ties there - and cheaper living than in Austria. Also, I do like Hungary and the Hungarians in all their guises - my grandpa used to say "once a Magyar always a Magyar!" and would add that they had switched their allegiance from the horse to the motor-car, and drove exactly the way their ancestors rode! True as anyone who has driven here knows!!
