Hi Everyone!

Before I start I just want to say that this is the first time I have ever used forums online so feeling a little out of my comfort zone here! So if I am doing/saying anything wrong, please just let me know..this is a whole new experience for me!

I guess the reason I am here and writing this is to try and find out a little more about life in Australia for ex-pats?

We've been to Oz twice and absolutely LOVE IT and after much research we've discovered we could actually make a permanent move 'down under.

But I'd love to hear more from people that have taken the plunge, particularly people that were in a similar position to what we are. Its a big decision moving to the other side of the world and whilst every part of my heart is telling me to just go for it - my head is saying we need to leave no stone unturned before we commit!

So here's our story..

• Our plan is to move to Melbourne (I work for a FMCG business & can apply for a role in their Melbourne HQ)
• Currently living in our house in West Berks, England. We would sell or rent out the house.
• Newly married - been together for 5 blissful years
• We are in our Mid Twenties
• Hobbies include: travel, dance, golf (husband!!) & enjoying outdoor life
• We have 2 dogs (unlikely that they will join us if we do take the plunge as we will be renting & have seen no pet friendly apartments in MEL)
• My husband is a plumber by trade (keen to hear what this trade is like out there - I read that UK qualifications are invalid?)
• No Children (one of our biggest concerns is how are we going to make friends and from what I've read so far, without children it is tougher??)

So, in a nutshell, thats our story and thats how we've got to where we have. Anything, and I mean absolutely ANYTHING, that you can you can do to help would be massively appreciated.

Excellent information can be found in the BE Wiki, not forgetting the Living and Moving Abroad forum that will help you, there is also a lot more information in the Australian forum Yet another set of great help is the permanent threads at the TOP of each forum, they are very pertinent to that particular forum and makes sensible reading.

Moderators deal with any problems that arise such as inappropriate posts, spammers etc, you will find their names at the bottom right hand side of each forum's index in bold font.

There's no need to worry...we were all members once and our members are friendly and helpful. We have lots of helpful members who will help you with the immigration process. We have several members living in the Melbourne area...so you may make a few friends before you move.

Also take a look in the BE Wiki...you'll find loads of useful info in there.

Welcome to BE.
You definitely need to check out the Australia forum, where you will find absolutely loads of information to help you. Also check out the Working abroad by profession section where there is a forum for plumbers, as well as a job offers section - you never know hubby may find something useful in there.
