hello everyone

Hello,

I have been living in the states for 23 years now and moved here when I was 24. I am wanting to return to the UK but there are so many questions. It all seems so overwhelming and difficult to even get a UK bank account let alone be considered for a mortgage. I would love to hear from anyone who has gone through this process. I'm overwhelmed.

Thank you :)

Re: hello everyone

Hi Lisa, thanks for introducing yourself to the forum, welcome to British Expats :welcome:

Moving back home can be a daunting thought, especially if you've been away for as long as you have. But fear not! We have a lovely Moving Back to the UK forum, where you'll not only be able to ask your questions and chat with other Brits who've moved back, but you'll also be able to use the forum's search function to find previous posts on specific topics.

I noticed you've already posted on the Moving Back to the UK forum, I'm going to give you my best advice and suggest that you start your own threads and ask all the questions you'll have over time on those (rather than asking a question on someone else's thread). The reason for that is your move will involve quite a few 'components', from opening a bank account to the logistics of the move itself, and if you have all your questions and the responses on your own threads it's going to be a reference you can keep returning to, rather than having to hunt down other threads. Think of it as your personal moving templates :) Although you already know where to find the UK forum, here's the link again https://britishexpats.com/forum/moving-back-uk-61/ Give me a shout here if you need a hand with posting.

Your anxieties about making the move are very understandable, and as you read through other threads in the UK forum you'll see many people have shared those anxieties. A bit of support from those who've 'been there done that' can make a huge difference and by reading and responding to other people's experiences, you won't feel so alone.

Very best of luck at the beginning of your journey home, BE's very pleased to have you
