Hello there and welcome aboard. There are plenty of countries that are warmer than the UK...not sure that they are better.

The US is very difficult to move to unless you are married to a USC. Where were you born? You may qualify to enter the DV Lottery...which would allow you to live and work in the US. Australia and Thailand seem to be very popular with Brits.

I suggest you take a look down the list of countries in the Living and Moving Abroad forum and take a read through the threads in some of the forums. Also take a look in the BE Wiki...there's loads of information in there.

BE is a large expat website...so it's understandable that you may have problems finding your way around our many forums. We have a team of concierges who will direct you around the website. You can find a list of their names at the bottom right hand side of this page.

For all other problems or concerns please contact a moderator...their names are located at the bottom right hand side of each forum's index page. Moderators' names are in bold font.

Before you post please read any 'sticky' threads or announcements that are posted at the top of each forum's index page.

Please give me a shout if you need any help.

Hi Michael,

Welcome to BE. Yep we've got a lot going on here that's for sure and I'm sure you will find lots of tips here.

I would suggest the first place to start would be to read through the wiki and then through the posts in the forums you are interested in. That way if you have questions you will have a better idea of what type of questions to ask.

So read, read, and read some more first and then get stuck in and post

Sue

Welcome & agreed. This site is enormous.
I managed to "get out" of the UK as well, although it will always hold a special place in my heart. I've only made it as far as Germany, but.. baby steps!

Drop Thailand off the list. It's warm, but as an ex-pat it's not easy to get by unless you have the support of a company or external income. It's not a strong economy either. There is potential for growth, it's just that the Thai government doesn't allow for that.

Malaysia is more stable.

You've mentioned three far away places, is the goal getting as far from the UK as you can? If not, Spain is not that bad..

Maybe reading some of the Moving Back to the UK forum to see other perspectives on where you are right now, OP?
It's always better to operate from a position of strength... move toward something you are excited about instead of leaving because you don't like something about where you are.

Welcome to BE

If you check out the wiki and the forum you'll be able to best ask more relevant questions as well as rule certain places out.

Have you thought about Uruguay or Paraguay as possibles? Good climate, pretty stable economy, easy to get a visa for etc.

Amelia, I not into the " I like you, you dont like me. I love you long time " cringe moment.

Spain is currently having its fair share of battering at the moment with high prices, unemployment and street protests. Also being bailed out doent seem like a healthy option. However, was there recently and I do like Barcelona.

Fantastic advice once again from the Mods. Much Love.

I'm feeling Miami. Always have. Love the mix of cultures, music, food, beach, sun lifestyle appeals to me a great deal.

And have a few contacts there so moving and making friends there would be a smoother transition.

It's very difficult to move to the US. Take a look at this.

Thailand is nice. But your right about the support of a company or external income. I have a friend who's moved out there with his family. But as his wife’s half Thai and her Thai connections they have more to play with in terms of businesses and owning land.

Malaysia is a Islamic country not that I have anything against them just think it’s best to stay away from those countries especially right now.

Think you have your head screwed on re Thailand. It's much easier when you have a Thai relative and our Concierge on there Nonthaburi can enlighten on that.

Your statement re Malaysia is a bit sweeping and needs a little bit of modification. It's a big big country with a great diversity of races and religions. Where I live in Penang, it is majority Chinese racially, the state government is the opposition party DAP which is majority Chinese, and Penang is majority Christian I believe - at least that's what it seems like to me with the number of churches everywhere.

Stay away?? Why? Is there something I don't know about.
