Hello from Isla canela!
Hi we’ve had a little apartment out here for… ooo… 18 years?!
My husband and I plan on retiring out here in 5 years and hopefully building a life with new friends.
just want to be more involved in the daily ins and outs of this fabulous place.
looking forward to getting involved and chatting with you all x

Hi Louie, welcome to BE.
Please take a moment to review the forum rules linked above in the drop down menu.
I assume you and/or your husband have a passport from an EU country, or meet the requirements for a visa.

As Mr. Pulaski mentioned, please revise the forum rules and then have a gander at the Spain forum found here: https://britishexpats.com/forum/spain-75/
Don't know which country you are citizens of so can't advise about visas, etc. but since you have been there for 18 years off and on, I imagine you know the ins and uts in that regards.
Welcome to the forums. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to contact a moderator who will able to assist you.

As suggested, post again in the dedicated Spain forum, but I'd first make one or two points, apart from the visa issue.
You've been on holiday there for the last 18 years, so you'll know how accessible hospital, doctors/dentists, physiotherapists, etc.... are. You may be fit now, but at retirement age, one tends to consult more often, and IMO it's an important factor when deciding where to retire to.
Will your "little appartment" accommodate family and friends when they visit? Have you stayed on Isla Canela in the Winter? Is it dead like many seaside places? I only know what I've read on Wikipedia, but you'd best go to the Town Hall to enquire about clubs/associations which you could join in order to meet new friends with like interests.
Finally, how's your Spanish? If it's not up to scratch to cope with the bureaucracy and nitty-gritty of living full-time in Spain, you've got 5 years to do so!
Good luck with your decision!

Thank you for your reply.
yes, we’re sadly familiar with accessing doctors, hospitals and dentists haha.
our Spanish is passable and improving all the time- we’re taking daily lessons.
although Isla canela itself is pretty (very) quiet out of season, we’re just 10 minutes from a busy working town.
excited to get out here full time!

But next time, post in the Spain forum, there may be members who live in the area. Not every one reads the Welcome Inn section.....
