Default Greetings from NYC!

Hi guys!

I'm obviously new here but wanted to say hi!

I'm originally from London, but recently moved to NYC last year after marrying the love of my life!

I got my US drivers license and green card earlier this year so slowly becoming a person again. I stumbled on this forum searching for British expats and decided to register and get involved!

Hi LiN, welcome to BE.

You'll find most of the US action happens over in one of the several US forums.

I lived in NY briefly, back in 2001-2002, and it is unlikely, though not completely impossoble, that anyone would pay me enough to make me want to go back.

Welcome to BE - I have found it very useful and fun to belong!!

I used to go to NYC regularly from UK for conferences etc and always had a few days free to wander round the city. I loved it, but then I was born in London, so used to cities. Always so much to do, I found it a great city to walk around and loved the museums and galleries etc. But I really have become a country girl and I don't think I would want to live there, or lie back in London.

But if I could afford to visit more often, I would!

Thanks guys!

And yeah Becks, NYC and London are my too fave cities on the planet! I try and explore as much as I can, navigating the subway here is a good way to get lost though!

Pulaski - you were here at a very tough time for lower Manhattan!

Yeah, arriving in NY less than two months after 9/11 was an interesting experience. I suspect that New Yorkers have never been as humble and welcoming, before, or since!

In fact I got my CR-1 visa approved at my interview on 9/10, 2001, so a date I will never forget! And three weeks earlier we had visited NY and gone to the top of the WTC.

My green card, a photo ID issued by the federal government no less, arrived six weeks after I immigrated, and it had TWO material errors - my surname had been misspelled, turning it into another word, like Jones changed to Bones, and they changed my nationality to "Irish".

Thats hardcore!

six weeks for a green card is a record too (even for 2001 I suspect), my first green card had the wrong date of birth on it, so had to go back for processing... USCIS accepted liability for it, but I had to go back for biometrics - going to the Bronx by myself at 7am is something I never want to do again!
