Essex (UK) Family thinking of moving to Savannah GA Advice needed
My husband has been offered a job in Savannah and we are now trying to make up our minds whether to up and move from Essex, UK. We have 2 children aged 2 & 4 and Im desperately worried how we will fit in Effingham/Guyton/Pooler/Rincon areas (these are areas we've been advised are nice!), and what the local schools are like in comparison to the UK. Any advice, information is greatly received.

Is it a transfer? In which case you could look on it as an adventure but keep your home base.
If a completely new job, are visas and health insurance sorted out and you will have to look more carefully into the pros and cons.
I'm not familiar with that part of the country, it's supposed to be quite pretty but I would have reservations about the heat/humidity and political climate.

Thank you. Hes being relocated, which is excellent regarding a new adventure. Im just worried that we wont fit in or am I being silly. Are there a lot of Brits in that area and is it friendly? What did you mean by political climate? Sorry for all the questions. Very grateful.

As I said, I don't know the area, but we did have an opportunity to move to Charleston. The southern states do have a reputation of being more right-wing (don't forget the whole country is significantly right of Britain). This can have a knock-on effect with things like school funding.
Good luck and see you in the US forums!

Hi Natalie,
Welcome to BE, and congrats to your hubby on the job offer.
I'm just a tad north of GA in North Carolina. Can't speak for GA but it's quite a bible belt type area down south, so that was a bit of a culture shock for me personally. However everyone is generally pretty friendly and laid back. Pace of life is a bit slower in the southern states. Savannah is certainly a lovely place to move to. Summers can be hot and steamy, but winters are mild. Spring and fall are the best times of the year.
Anyway I see you have reposted in the USA forum and I'm sure our members in the Savannah area will share a few tips and stuff.

Hello Natalie, welcome to the US in advance
I'm just a Yankee (northerner) and don't know a TON about the south, but during my visits there I found everyone very friendly. Sue you aren't kidding about being a bit slower!
When I think of Savannah I think of grand estates and moss hanging off trees. I think you're lucky
Pete
