Default Another Newbie

Hello one and all
I'm really looking for a bit of guidance from those who are more worldly wise than me.
My wife and I have recently been offered teaching positions in Jeddah. We would very much like to be advised about KSA as we have never taught outside the UK before.
What do we have to be aware of, as we both know that ignorance is not bliss?
What is compound life like?
What is life like for a family of 4. We have 2 boys age 6 and 8, where can we go as a family. Is it safe to eat out?
Everywhere has dodgy areas but what is general life like?
Right, I think that'll do for a start and look forward to receiving some responses or directions to other thread links
Many thanks
Adam

Hi Adam

Welcome to BE - you have certainly come to the right place to find out about life in Saudi.
We have a forum dedicated to expats living and working in the Middle East, where you can chat with plenty of other expats in KSA. If you repost your questions onto that forum I am sure you will get plenty of information forthcoming.
You can find the forum by clicking the 'forum index' tab on the top left of this page, scroll down the list of countries until you se the title Middle East, double click that and you're in.
We also have a forum for teachers who are working abroad, which may be worth checking - you can find this one also on the flrum index page, but below the list of countries under the section entitled 'Working abroad by profession' - you may be able to chat with others working as teachers in the same area.

That just leaves me to say all the very best with your plans and I hope you enjoy making new friends on BE

Dread - x

Hi Adam and warm to BE. As Dread said, do check out the Middle East forum here and post some questions on there. They're a friendly bunch on there and sure you'll get some answers.

Hello and a big welcome to BE.

Excellent information can be found in the BE Wiki, not forgetting the Living and Moving Abroad forum that will help you, another set of great help is the permanent threads at the TOP of each forum, they are very pertinent to that particular forum and makes sensible reading.

Moderators deal with any problems that arise such as inappropriate posts, spammers etc, you will find their names at the bottom right hand side of each forum's index in bold font.

Please contact me if I can give you any further help.

Hi Guys
Many thanks for the welcome, I'll be searching over the weekend for answers and then probably be back to question people further. It looks like KSA might not be as bad as the press back here make out!!
Cheers
Adam
