We went fake last year after 2 years of bad experiences, I always had a real tree in the UK, put it up 1st week in December by boxing day the thing was usually bald so ended up outside way before 12th night.
1st year here I got a lovely looking 'blue' spruce only to find it was only blue as it had been sprayed blue Grrrrr ... 2nd year went for a douglas fir that was pathetic and ended up shedding ornaments if not needles everywhere.
Last year I treated us to a 7ft Martha Stewart pre-lit tree, theres going to be hell if the lights dont all work when we get it out this year.

Jan

oh and p.s .... real trees and wooden floors don't necessarily mean less work, the needles get between the boards so you end up sweeping them out well into July.

Cant be doing with the mess of a real tree, like my little fake green one, I'm not OTT with the Christmas decorations either.

Hey, I've been in that shop!!! There's a Christmas shop in Bourton-On-The-Water too. I used to live in Banbury, so I used to visit all those lovely Cotswold villages weekly, oh I miss it so much.

well if it's needles that stop you from getting a real tree...get a Douglas the needles are soft and easily vacuum up....we usually get ours from the Home Depo..they're really cheap and just as good as anything you'll find on a much pricier lot...but then husband is always determind to find the best tree.....pocketknife at hand he always cuts the wrap and shakes out the tree giving it a thorough inspection *lol* ..it's not a biggy cos they can re wrap em we usually don't get ours until mid December but i'm always loath to get rid of it cos it always still looks so great...

Real, only real. Real or nowt. Gives me something to bitch about. "Look at all that mess, around the floor". Wife "Born USC" says "Get a fake". I say "no only real for me". Me "Just look at that mess on the floor", gives me somthing to bitch about. Me, "when I lived in England, the trees were better, cheaper, fresher, lasted longer & the bits did not fall off. In the good old days".

I agree, Home Depot for us. We pay around $40 for a Douglas Fir, that costs $80 -$100 on the sidewalk in NYC. We also always open the tree, give it a good shake check for symmetry.

May well be. I was pretty wild in the 60's, 70's, 80's & 90's. Where were you born, where were you conceived?
