Don't mention the war! I did once, but I think I got away with it!

While only certain Fawlty towers may have made it to Germany, Post #5 on this thread appears to confirm that one of the very best Two Ronnie's sketches certainly did make it "over there"!!

[if you have school age children] ..... you wake up, the weather is a bit iffy, and the first thing you do is check to see if the start of school is delayed.

Well not today it isn't, but I had to check when I woke up.

But generally speaking the standard of driving in wintery weather is laughable, comparable with London and Gloucester. At least most people stay home when it snows, but those who out and about often drive like they're scared shïtless. I once passed, by cutting out of snow ruts into the oncoming traffic lane, and back again , a Land Rover Discovery, while driving my Accord. The Discovery was barely moving at walking pace!

I don't even think about it unless more than 6" of snow has fallen overnight and even then it's getting rarer for an actual snow day

Plus, we're 0.8 miles from the high school, no excuses for our son ...

...you go to the Dollar General store for batteries and a pack of eight in a display be the register is $6.50. The manager points you to a larger display with more selection and you find a pack of Ever Ready Gold for $4.

So, as they're $2.50 cheaper, you go to look for a snack and in the aisle is a hanger with the same ERG batteries at $3.00 for TWELVE!

Doesn't work down here in Georgia. The mere THREAT of a snowflake and the whole state shuts down for the day!

...and forget watching broadcast TV for the prior evening without all the closures taking up half the screen!

But because you've been in the US so long, you know to look at the expiry date on dollar store products, and you discovery that the batteries have a use by date in 1998.

To be fair, they don't have anything to deal with snow, no plows, no sand and no salt. Also, God forbid if they DID get anything measurable here I would stay home, refusing to deal with people who have no idea how to drive in the stuff. It's bad enough dealing with the locals when we have our monsoons and the speed limit is fly wide open.
