Yep, one of the reasons we decided on this particular vehicle was the low cost of fuel. Now we find ourselves using it more and more for the same reason. Even when we go out together. Except when we take doggie out with us and I don't want him leaving his doggy hair all over my brand new upholstery

You talk about Gallons when you mean Quarts, and fellow expats do not call you out...

Forget the low cost of fuel - how on earth do you keep it down to 528 miles in 3 months? I probably do that in a week just ferrying the kids around.

We're taking my Suzuki to the dealership for our first 90 day free service on Monday. It has only 528 miles on it. According to hubby the manufacture's recommendation is an oil change every seven months or every 7200 miles. But taking into consideration the harsh winters we have here he has decided to go with my fathers advice and get it done at the dealership again in the fall and thereafter in the spring of 2014. That is our choice and it's left to everyone else to decide what they wanna do, really
He follows my Dad's advice on his own Chevy Silverado which is older. Works for us,

I've just hit 16k in mine and had it since March. You must do a lot of kid ferrying as most of mine is from my commute (45 miles/day).
You know you've been here too long when you consider an hours drive a 'short' drive.

With the traffic on the M62 when I was in the UK, Sadly I did consider an hour a short drive.

..... at 10 o'clock on a Saturday night you are arguing on-line with other British expats about the relative strengths and weaknesses of the British and American health care systems.

you get approved for medicare and you get excited about the $450 a month you will save on medical insurance.

Not so fast, Lansbury. I don't think you're going to be saving very much. I think you have to pay something like $ 139 each to Medicare. Basically, Medicare covers only 80%. And then there's the gap insurance you have to get to cover the balance 20% which could be another $400 or so for two people. This is quite a big portion of your social security. How do I know ? Because my Dad is a senior. Fortunately he has his IRA plus other sources income.

Medicare part B - $104.90
Medicare Advantage plan from current insurer with drug coverage - $52
Co-pays etc on Medicare Advantage plan same as current plan. Very unlikely to reach the drug gap as I have no regular drug prescription
Savings $450 a month - plus the Medicare Advantage plans comes with free membership to a local gym, worth $34 a month for a years membership.
Don't think I've missed anything I should be expecting to pay, but willing to learn if I have.

Do you actually have to go and exercise in the gym?
