Same here, even to the point where a bare cardboard tube sits on the holder while an opened roll sits on the tank/floor. Mind you, the wife has a jug of water which is probably actually better than smearing.

Our house has regular bowls, ..... but the cisterns have high-efficiency flush mechanisms!

Reminds me of a bloke in the UK who had a dual fill for the water tank. He said it had two inlet holes (one on either side, usually one capped), so why not use them for a turbo fill?!

He was very slightly mad, admittedly.

I think that's just the passage of time, not just in the US, because the US has been behind the UK and Europe in giving up cash and cheques in favour of cards, stored value, and e-wallets.
