You forgot to credit Rodney Dangerfield.

And yet the games are so similar at a high level, in terms of general strategy. Except for the speed of play, size of the playing area, size of the teams, substitution of players, etc., etc., etc.

Indoor soccer narrows the gap considerably and the similarities become much more apparent.

Do you realise that you basically said that the two are the same, except for all the differences ... ?

Yes, I do, and I did it deliberately.

And given that many of the local sports require a show built around them to distract from how dull the sport actually is, that's quite a handicap for ice hockey.
I didn't know they had cheerleading in ice hockey. I've attended college and high school games and there've never been any cheerleaders ...

Cheerleading has been my single biggest disappointment since coming to the US. I was expecting great things... Meh...!

There was a yahoo thing the other day with the 5 worst cheerleading fails...(.my son showed me it, before you think I was googling "high school cheerleaders"....honest). How the girls walked away from some of the falls I will never know.

Years back we were in the departure lounge waiting to board, and there was a HS cheerleading team waiting at one of the other gates. It was a typical massive high ceiling in the middle, and lower at the sides near the gate entry. Anyway, a few of them obviously got bored, and started doing one of their routines - I guess you've got to be a bit of a show off to be into that sort of stuff. They must not have realized that they'd strayed under the low part, cos when they threw he wee lassie in the air, she went straight through the ceiling. Oops. Fortunately it was one of those false ceilings and she didn't hit anything too hard. No real damage...apart from to her ego

Here are the Aero girls...ok, they call them a dance team rather than cheerleaders, but to be honest I'm not sure what the difference is?

Cheerleading on ice might have some entertainment value.
