Yes we have to leave. We are on J visas at the moment (non-immigrant) and even if OH were to get a new job with a new visa we wouldn't stay in SD because of the high cost of living. I want to buy a house and we just could not afford to do it here. Looking to move somewhere with a more sensible cost of living. We are pretty open about where so just need to see where he gets offers once we finish up here.

I had hoped to try and get back into aviation, but I only have a little regional airport that just never hires and working for a FOB operator pays not much more than minimum wage. I'm currently running the security department at a large resort nearby, not what I want to do but it helps pay the bills. Also just started working for myself as an iCracked iTech sorting out people's iPhones, iPads, Galaxy's and the like. Working for myself, selling, marketing, all stuff I've never done before and quite enjoying it

Good for you. A son of ours has been doing something similar for some time, and like him, you will find that word of mouth will bring you plenty of work. I wish you well.

I too am in SD. Moved over for my husband's Post Doc. We've been here for almost 3 years. He LOVES it and I know he will cry when we have to leave. I too am happy enough but I think because I know we will be moving again that I haven't really allowed myself to think of it as home. It is so darn expensive here that no matter what we know we will be moving on to find a new 'forever' home. Probably not the UK, just somewhere else./

One other thing we find expensive is food, this is partly because we like to cook properly and fresh fruit/veg is more costly in a lot of places. If you want to eat rubbish it is cheap, if it is good for you it is not.
Don't get me started on the cost of flights to the UK!

Hahah, yeah, the cost of fresh food is insane compared to the manufactured rubbish. I wasn't living in the UK before I moved there and the price of food is a bit cheaper than where I was. Our rent is about the same for a much bigger place (but I was dreaming of something bigger/nicer but had to get realistic because of the prices).

I'm not due an upgrade until next September as I got the 5c on release, I'm not convinced on the size anyway, so I'll wait and see.
Daughter wants an iPhone for Christmas, she's not on a contract at the moment, so at least that won't be too expensive.
