Yoghurt?

Much like the soy milk thread...just wondering if anyone has found any nice stuff around?
Most that I've tried has been pretty nasty, or really quite expensive, so given the Silk Soy yoghurt a go, which was really nice, and pretty cheap...but just wondering what else people have tried and liked?

I know it's not yoghurt, but has anyone found anything similar to Angel Delight? I could eat gallons of that stuff :D

yeah...that would be good...there must be some nice proper yoghurt that doesnt' leave a nasty fatty after taste out there, though that silk stuff was really nice, it's 89c for a tiny little tub....and the other stuff was $1.10, which is supposed to be better, haven't tried it yet but can hardly afford to many of those.

Please elaborate on why US yoghurt is "cack".

Thanks.

it has a slimey fatty after taste and not a very nice consistency...well the one's I've tried over here, even the danone ones are pretty nasty....and the flavours are all either blueberry or rasphberry, there aren't any decent weird flavours.
Not to mention that there a bit expensive to be that nasty...

I like the yogurt w/ the crunchy bits on top. Some have a strawberry flavored yogurt w/ crunchy chocolate bits and I like the ones with granola on top the best. I can remember who makes these. Our local store doesn't sell them.
Also there is a new one that's supposed to be the creamiest (name escapes me again) and it's really good. Sells in 6 packs.

I would like to hear from Russ&Jayne because she makes her own at home so she can maybe better describe American yoghurt.

My main complaint about American yoghurts is that they're too sweet and have dubious colors.

So, in the end I buy plain yoghurt (organic cow, sheep or soy) and add my own flavorings like jam (made by my Mum), maple syrup, tinned fruit, etc.

Yep, I agree the majority of Amercian yoghurts are too sweet though I never buy the flavoured ones anyway as I don't like them. Generally, I don't like sweet additives in any form. I agree also with Bob that they're slimy and taste fake. I have bought organic plain yoghurt on numerous ocassions but to me it has no flavour. The consistency is also watery and a little slimy like the supermarket stuff. I think this has something to do with the pasturisation laws over here which prevent them from making thick cream etc.

I use local organic milk to make it at home. It comes out like greek yoghurt which I prefer. I don't even need to add anything sweet to it, but we do have it with fresh fruit sometimes...not the tinned stuff ;)

They do tend to be to sweet, so if I can't find anything I like, I'll get plain and mix it with honey, that's always nice...oh, and the soy silk raspberry is coloured wtih red cabbage....hmmm... :)

Who hurt the Yog? Ahhh you mean yogurt ;-)

Personally my favorite is Colombo yogurt, all flavors, the fat free one is excellent. I'm now using the fat free and "lite" variety. No bad, actually.

The only Soy milk I will drink is the chocolate one and since I'm not allowed chocolate, have gone back to 2% milk.

Yoghurt made with conventionally produced milk (i.e. non-organic) may have an "odd" consistency due to the presence of bovine growth hormone as well as the pasterization process.

Should give the Silk Soy milk a go, it's really very nice and tastes like milk, I personally prefer the plain unsweetened version myself, and the missus likes the choc one, but the coffee flavoured one was nice.

As for the yoghurt, cheers, i'll give 'em a go next time around :)

Oh, how I miss the yoghurts from the UK!

My favourite one was (is) made by 'Muller' I think: Blackberry and Apple Crumble yoghurt which tastes wonderful. They also make a rhubarb crumble one and a rum n'raisin yoghurt with crunchy bits which are very nice too.

I also liked the thick Greek yoghurts with honey (I've seen them here but they cost $1.79 for a tiny carton).

Slightly less healthy (but v. nice) are the Cadbury's Flake chocolate puddings.... and the yoghurts with bits of Crunchie in them...even had a Milky Bar white choc pudding once and I liked that too!

I also used to like eating the Fruit Fools (especially gooseberry). The 'whipped' yoghurts over here are a poor imitation and too sweet.

I also love the little individual cartons of tiramisu from the dairy cabinet in Tescos.

I'm such a pig when I go to the UK.... ;)

(Like previous posts here I prefer soy yoghurts in the US compared to the dairy ones which seem to leave a 'sour' taste in the palate. There is a really nice one from the Whole Soy Co. which is a lemon flavour).

Seems many of you are on the same wavelength but maybe didn't know it... check your local natural foods grocery for a locally produced yogurt and you will probably be happier.
This is our local, which may be sold in a pasturized version waaaay over in the boonies where you are, Bob :)

cool...I'll keep an eye out for it :)
Been getting yoghurt from the local health greenstore because the local grocery store doesn't have soy yoghurt, and the normal ones aren't that good, or just really expensive...

It's funny how little things like yoghurt, soy milk and stuff can be so much trial and error, and be so different.

Just had a small tub of Wildwood soy raspberry yoghurt, and well it wasn't bad, certainly had the consistency of yoghurt from blighty and tasted pretty good, but it was a bit gritty, and no, they weren't raspberry seeds :p
and for the price, probably won't get it to often, it was a tiny tub and $1.10

Re: Yoghurt?

I really miss the Rachels Organic Yogurt from back home, the Rhubarb and the Greek Yogurt with Honey were my favourites. Also Longley Farm Black Cherry ...yummy...

I've not managed to find an organic yogurt that is anywhere near as nice although Central Markets did have some that were not too bad - I can't think for the life of me which brand they were. (It could well have been Wallaby, I seem to remember some kind of Australian sounding name)

My children really miss the yogurts from home. I never gave them any of the highly coloured and flavoured stuff so they just don't like it, and most of the kids stuff seems to be highly coloured or silly flavours.

What about Stonyfield Farms' YoBaby yoghurts -- they are so good! I have to admit to swiping them from under my children's noses a time or two . . . ahem! I can find them in the organic section of Publix supermarkets here in Florida.
