Agree! People eat it up too fast, thus one has to make more & more....

Wow those prices are good! We're in the Bay Area which probably explains our high prices. Our farmers market is great, but not cheap!

Lots of Wal-Marts now sell fresh foods, produce, and typical grocery store fare.

Sort of. I wouldn't say ours is like Trader Joe's though.

I know this is true, and I always look for this kind of WalMart (out of curiousity), yet I've never found one that sells any fresh produce, frozen goods or meat.

Ours sells a whole load of food but it's all dry goods, tinned stuff, breads, etc. It's got great prices for baking ingredients, flours, yeast, baking powder, etc. I also buy all my breakfast cereal, crisps, pasta & dried beans there. Recently it did install a small chiller cabinet & now sells milk & some orange juice but that's all.

The husband prefers Target to WalMart, and says it's more "upscale" but some prices reflect that.

Something I don't understand in US stores is why pasta is sold in a small box or packet as if it's some luxury food. Pasta for sure is cheaper in our Trader Joe's than Wal Mart. But I used to get big sacks of it in Sainsburys.

Apart from one farmers market, the others around here are monstrously more expensive.

They were much cheaper up in Maine, but then again, also found a lot of folks just selling off a table by the side of the road up there too.

And for the fruit/veg, a lot of it is festering, has bugs and is minging quality around where I am.

The meats/fish aren't to bad though.

I did our shop this morning, only a small one mind, so only $45 and some change.

Apart from the box of snacks to last the kids school snack for a couple weeks, the rest would barely fill a hand basket, total of 15 items

No meat, dairy or fruit, as for veg, a onion at a buck and a small red pepper at $3

Yes, it doesn't really qualify as 'fresh food' around here either.
